SD33Chilliwack school district secretary treasurer Gerry Slykhuis estimates the district will have to cut about $700, 000 in costs to satisfy the province’s demands.

He says the district was already facing a $2.7 million dollar shortfall next year and says balancing the budget will be a major challenge.

“We’re not totally sure where we’re going to find it all. We had to find $3.1 million to balance the budget for this year so another $3.4 million for next year is going to be extremely difficult to find.”

During the release of the provincial budget, the province said BC school districts need to cut a combined $29 million off their administration costs.
