seonaigh.macphersonLess than six months away from the federal election, the NDP have a bit of an uphill climb in the Fraser Valley, where the Conservatives have long held sway.

However Chilliwack-Hope NDP candidate Seonaigh MacPherson says she thinks a lot of voters are disenchanted with the Conservatives.

“I’m going door to door and have been since December, and I’m actually surprised by the number of voters who support the NDP, far more than I was led to believe. And even the Conservative voters or the undecided voters see us as the best alternative.”

MacPherson says since the NPD got 26% of the vote in the Chilliwack-Hope riding in the last election, they’re the best option to try to oust the Conservatives.

She says her main strategy is to reassure people that the NDP are committed to fiscal responsibility, but that good finances are not everything.

“A happy family doesn’t come because the household budget is balanced. It takes also social responsibility and environmental responsibility to make a prosperous and health environment for us to live and grow our families in.”

MacPherson says federal NDP leader Thomas Mulcair will be in Surrey May 15th and says she’s trying to organize buses to take Chilliwack, Hope, and Abbotsford residents out to see him.
