No suspected firebug, but Chilliwack seeing a lot of vacant building fires recently

Chilliwack Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention Mike Bourdon says the eight fires over the last three months at vacant properties all seem to be caused by different people.
He says vacant buildings are an easy target and owners should take some precautions.

“Shut off and disconnect all the utilities, so water, gas and electrical.  That just alleviates a lot of the hazards that can start a fire as well.”

Bourdon says if a building isn’t going to be used for anything, he’d like to see them get torn down to take away the risk altogether.
