The Federal Government has been handing out infrastructure money to help celebrate Canada’s upcoming 150th birthday, and $225,000 of that money has landed in Chilliwack.

Mayor Sharon Gaetz says the City and feds are splitting the cost of expanding the Landing Spray Park, with the City chipping in $250,000.

It’s going to be a 280 square meter expansion, with new features and some renovations to the grass and picnic areas.

“This year out of any year we are well aware of the heat and the tolls it can take on families. This is great fun for families to come and cool down and have something that is free for them to be able to do.”

Work on the project won’t start till fall of 2016 to avoid interrupting park operation next summer, and is expected to be complete by spring of 2017.
