Abbotsford shooting appears to be connected to ongoing youth gang conflict

There’s been another shooting on Sandpiper Drive in Abbotsford.
Police got multiple reports of shots fired just after 8:30 last night, and while they did find shell casings on the ground, there was no victim. But after calling local hospitals, it turns out someone did show up with a gunshot wound to the leg. Cbl. Ian MacDonald says the victim is not cooperating, and all signs point to this being connected to a drive by on August 7th where a vehicle parked in a driveway on Sandpiper was riddled with bullets.

“Although this will sound familiar, we didn’t get a lot of cooperation from people connected to that residence or that vehicle either. So we believe at this point in time that this is connected to this ongoing conflict that we’ve spoken about numerous times that involves predominantly young men on the West side of Abbotsford.”

MacDonald says police had been working hard in the community trying to suppress the violence, but it appears to have started back up the last couple weeks.

He says people in the neighborhood need to remain vigilant, and call police right away to report any suspicious activity. He says they’re continuing to look into it, but with nobody talking, it stalls the investigation.
