Sasquatch Mountain Resort is excited to reopen on Saturday, February 8, 2020 with full operations following a road closure that occurred due to a landslide on Hemlock Valley Road. The Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure (MOTI) and road crews have worked around the clock to repair the road and have now deemed it safe to reopen to the public with single lane alternating traffic (SLAT). On the evening of Friday Jan 31st, around 9pm there was a landslide on Hemlock Valley Road leaving it impassable to vehicles in both directions. Around the same time, the small community also lost power which took BC Hydro almost 43 hours to restore. Guests, locals and staff remained positive and patient while awaiting either the road to reopen or an evacuation plan. Thanks to the hard work and dedicated efforts of Sasquatch Management, TRK and Librico Helicopters, MOTI and the Emil Anderson road crew, all 500+ guests were successfully evacuated in a safe and timely fashion by the afternoon of Monday, February 3rd.

Shelby Lim, Director of Sales, Marketing & Development for the resort states “We are just happy that nobody was hurt, everyone got home safely and we’re excited to get back to doing what we do best which is showing our guests a good time both on and off the snow”. Road crews are still working to fully complete the emergency repairs on Hemlock Valley Road, which will require traffic to be stopped periodically for up to an hour at a time. The Ministry of Transportation is focussing on having the repairs fully completed as soon as possible and are developing a plan for a long-term solution.

The resort will reopen Saturday morning with almost 25cm of fresh snow forecasted to fall overnight Friday and has lots of fun, affordable events in the coming weeks including;

Lim states “This event was an amazing display of comradery as locals, surrounding municipalities, government, and strangers pulled together to make the most out of a challenging situation where the focus was put more on community over crisis. ”

We would like to thank our guests for their continued patience and support and our surrounding communities, individuals and businesses who offered assistance and supplies to those impacted by the situation. Special mention goes to TRK Helicopters, Librico Helicopters, The Canadian Ski Patrol, the Sasquatch Mountain staff members, The Hemlock Valley Volunteer Firefighters Association, The Hemlock Valley Homeowners Association, and our local MLA Laurie Throness for their assistance during this time.
