Chilliwack:  A RCMP investigation of a fender bender on Vedder Road led police to an impaired driver.

On June 16, 2019 just before 8 p.m. Chilliwack RCMP received a report that a driver allegedly failed to stay after colliding with an automobile travelling in the 5700-block of Vedder Road.  The suspect vehicle was quickly located and stopped by general duty officer in the 6600-block of Chilliwack River Road.

The investigating officer immediately noted the symptoms of intoxication in the alleged driver who was arrested by police.

Ryan Michael Gillanders, 32, of Chilliwack is charged with impaired operation, fail to stop, refusal, and two counts breach of undertaking.  Mr. Gillanders was released from custody pending a court date later in July.

“Operating a motor vehicle while impaired is a dangerous practice which compromises the safety of the community,” says Corporal Mike Rail spokesperson for the UFVRD. “RCMP remain committed to removing impaired drivers from our roadways.”

RCMP urge everyone who witnesses anything they believe to be erratic driving behaviour to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or, should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
