October 23, 2020 (Metro Vancouver, BC):  The Greater Vancouver Zoo will be a twinkling – and safe – wonderland as it welcomes the community to celebrate the holiday season with Glow Gardens. Nighttime hours have been added, November 18 – January 2 (5:00 pm – 10:00 pm), so visitors can stroll through a charming landscape of Christmas festivities, including larger-than-life lighted displays, a 100-foot dancing light tunnel, music, and seasonal food and treats. Guests will also earn a surprise when they help Santa find his lost presents, scattered throughout the park.

“We really want to help create a memorable experience for the community during this time of COVID-19, when we have fewer chances to get out of the house for safe, family fun,” said

Serge Lussier, general manager of the Greater Vancouver Zoo. “This is also a very unique opportunity for guests to experience The Greater Vancouver Zoo at night and Glow Gardens will create a magical adventure through our natural open air park.”

“Christmas spirit is just a little more important this year, amidst all the challenges of COVID. So we’re excited that the Greater Vancouver Zoo is hosting Glow Gardens because of its unique outdoor venue and ability to operate in a safe way,” said Lawrence Jansen, CEO and founder of

Glow Gardens. “Our team is adapting all the beautiful displays that Glow Gardens’ guests will remember from past years to ensure we can still come together to share the magic of the season, while staying safe.”

The GVZoo has already re-opened its doors during the day, going above and beyond the safety regulations of the BC Public Health Authority. Visiting the Zoo is largely a one-way experience, with signage and floor markers to encourage physical distancing.

The same rules will apply for evenings at Glow Gardens, to ensure the GVZoo is the safest place to celebrate with your family: groups should be limited to six people in your social bubble, and must stay together; groups and individuals are asked to remain 6-feet from other guests; hand sanitizing stations are conveniently provided throughout the venue; and a no-touch policy will be in effect. Tickets must be purchased in advance for a specified entry time, as capacity will be significantly reduced.

Wearing a mask is encouraged at all times – especially festive and cheery masks! Our elves will be popping in to surprise people showing extra holiday spirit.

Because of the limited capacity, holiday revellers are encouraged to buy tickets early, to ensure they can secure their preferred night and time. Tickets for Glow Gardens are on sale now and must be purchased in advance at www.glowgardens.com.

About Glow Gardens

Glow Gardens is a holiday festival designed to bring people together to laugh, stroll and play under the twinkle of a million lights. With deep roots in their community, the founding Jansen family, from Langley, BC, connects families and neighbours year-round with their floral and vegetable greenhouses, Darvonda Nurseries; and they have extended that spirit to celebrate the warmth of the holiday seasons with Glow Gardens. ‘Christmas Glow’ first launched in 2017 near Vancouver, BC, and has since expanded to visit more than a dozen locations in Canada, the US and Denmark. In 2020, Glow Gardens will be celebrating Christmas in five locations with an abundance of caution, and under the guidance and approvals of local health authorities (Greater Vancouver, BC; Edmonton, AB; Niagara, ON; Halifax, NS; Salt Lake City, UT).
