It’s more expensive for parents to have their kids in Abbotsford Minor Hockey this year.
Apparently the city has stopped subsidizing ice fees for the league, and because it’s now going to be more expensive for leagues to use the ice, that cost gets passed onto parents. Mayor Henry Braun isn’t allowed to explain why the city didn’t renew the subsidy because of a confidentiality clause, but said he will try and make that information public.
For now, leagues have been told they can book ice at Abbotsford Centre, which is city owned, and therefore cheaper. But because there are non hockey related events there, it’s hard to get regular ice time.
