flu shot(Submitted by Shannon Brennan) After last year’s brutal flu season, doctors and nurses are being asked by the BC Centre for Disease Control to help them get an early start on prevention.
Part of the reason we were hit so hard last year was because the vaccine was a mismatch — and that lead to the lowest vaccine effectiveness recorded in over 10 years.
The World Health Organization has replaced last year’s vaccine with a new one and are hoping this time it will give better protection.

Kits are being sent out across BC, and heath authorities are hoping workers will help by swabbing suspected cases, as they want to keep track of the vaccine’s effectiveness.
