Chilliwack embracing Housing First

It looks like Chilliwack will join the ranks of communities to embrace the Housing First model, after a report recommended it as the best approach to dealing with the homelessness problem.

Councilor Ken Popove, who chairs the housing committee, says basically the priority is to get people off the street, and combine housing with wraparound programs from Fraser Health.

“The service is called an ICM team, integrated case management, which provides for addictions, mental health, that sort of stuff to help these folks out.”

Popove says the committee and service providers are already trying to work out the best way to roll out that kind of program.
