One of the many events to celebrate National Aboriginal Day

June 21st is National Aboriginal Day, but in Chilliwack, Agassiz, and Harrison, the celebrations will go beyond just the one day.

Sabine Mendez from Chilliwack Healthier Community, one of the partners in the celebrations, says there will be over a month’s worth of events going on, everything from early learning literacy for kids to the opening of the Stó:l? Primary Health Care Centre.

Mendez says Chilliwack has a strong aboriginal population, with one in ten residents being of aboriginal descent.

“For a city that’s fairly unique. In the rural areas, smaller towns, its common to have a higher percentage of aboriginal population but it is one of the many things that makes Chilliwack special.”
