abbyPD1A local man faces criminal charges for failing to stop after a motor vehicle collision with a pedestrian on Thursday night.  On June 4, 2015, at approximately 10:45 p.m. a pedestrian walking at Hodgins Avenue and Mary Street was struck by a red car which witnesses said continued to drive westbound on Hodgins Avenue without stopping.

Police and BC Ambulance personnel quickly responded to the reported collision and located the victim.  The 56 year old man, who sustained life threatening injuries, was transported to hospital.

A second witness alerted police to the suspect vehicle in the ditch on Wolfe Road and the driver running into a nearby cornfield.  RCMP officers with the support of the Integrated Police Dog Services promptly arrived taking the suspect into custody.

“Officers from Fraser Valley Traffic Services, Integrated Crash Reconstruction Section, and the Forensic Investigation Section were engaged during the investigation”, said Cpl. Mike Rail.

Police are recommending Criminal Code charges of Fail to Remain at Scene of Accident, Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm and Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over .08 of Alcohol against a 20 year old Chilliwack man who is held in custody pending a court appearance June 5, 2015.

“The community, who did not hesitate to get involved, was again the key to police identifying the alleged driver of the red car” said Cpl. Mike Rail.
