Nepal-earthquake1-878x494A trio of hikers from Chilliwack happened to be in Nepal when that 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit on Saturday.  Shaun Monty, Robertson Mackenzie and Ashleigh Brooks were in touch with the Chilliwack Progress and say they’re OK, but they’re trying to help people there who have lost their homes. They say monsoon season is coming and many people have no shelter. They’ve teamed up with other hikers, journalists and photographers in the area to raise $10,000 and as of this morning they’re already over $4,500. The page is called Backpackers for Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund.  You can find the page HERE

The death toll from the quake is over 5,000 and rising.  Around 8 million people have been affected by the quake.
