ICBCICBC was out with Chilliwack RCMP yesterday helping them crack down on distracted drivers.

ICBC road safety coordinator Mike Weightman says since the cell phone laws came in, the numbers of people getting caught is slightly down, but says it’s become a huge problem when it comes to accidents.

“Distracted driving has taken over number two spot for road deaths in traffic collisions in BC. So it’s the number two priority, speed is number one, distracted driving, and impaired. So it’s a concern for the police and for us as well.”

Weightman says you’re four times more likely to crash if you’re on your phone.

He also says it’s not only car drivers that need to stay off the phone, saying cyclists need to stay focused as well.
